In April 1990 Peter Kopf founded medica Medizintechnik GmbH seated in the town of Hochdorf, Southern Germany. Up to today, he is the head of the company. From the very beginning, medica has specialized in the development, production, and distribution of THERApeutical exercisers and services for people with impaired motor skills. |
|
History Only a few years on the market, medica had established the reputation of being the innovation leader for THERApeutical movement devices. |
 |
1990 The THERA-mobil was the first movement exerciser made by medica. With the brand-new “SDD-control” (a consistent improvement of the spasticity control) medica proved to be innovative right from the start. The THERA-mobil featured a modern design and an ergonomic footrest distance only known from bicycles at that point of time. |
 |
1993 With the all new THERA-vital movement therapy was taken to a new level. For the very first time a motorized movement exerciser featured a display. Using the – at that time - latest microprocessor technology the user was now able to choose between different therapy programs. The pedals were connected to the motor using a belt. Today, all motorized exercisers for professional use feature this design as it enables a very thin construction.

1997 In order to provide exercisers not only for the handicapped, but also for patients with small disabilities and senior citizens, the new THERA-fit (without motor), THERA-fit plus (with motor), THERA-live, and THERA-active were added to the product range.
|
 |
1999 The first redesign was presented only 4 years later – again raising the bar for motorized exerciser with various groundbreaking innovations: The new display was significantly larger in order to enable the user to check his training data constantly. Voice-activated shut-off and pulse control set new standards in safety.
|
 |
2001 With the “symmetry training” medica has inaugurated a new era for motorized exercisers. The idea behind symmetric training is really simple: Using a very sensitive electronic control the muscular activity is measured for both legs separately and displayed on a big screen. This way right-left-deficiencies in the lower extremities (e.g. stroke patients) can be treated effectively. Furthermore the patient’s motivation is increased a lot by symmetric training. At the end of each training session an evaluation with all the important training data is presented to enable training control. The introduction of the START/STOP-light control (= very easy handling) shows explicitly, that development and all innovations are focused on the user.

2004 In 2004 medica presented the BALANCE-Trainer, a world novelty. The BALANCE-Trainer is a dynamic standing trainer with BALANCE-function. A revolution on the standing trainer market!
In the same year the redesigned THERA-live set yet again new standards.

2005 “Who on Earth would nowadays even consider buying a TV or a cell phone with a black and white screen?” – Nobody, and that’s why the medica development team went straight to work.
The new THERA-vital exerciser is the very first motorized exerciser with colour display available on the market. The new colour screen offers numerous new, biofeedback controlled therapy methods. This results in increased motivation, more fun, and – most important – more training success.

since 2007 The BALANCE-Trainer - a dynamic standing device with BALANCE-function - was completely redesigned in 2007. Now it can be adapted more easily and more individually to the patients needs. The knee supports of the BALANCE-Trainer now consist of 3 parts which can be adapted individually to the patients knee. Because of the anti-slip footplate the safety factor while the BALANCE-Training could be again increased.
The redesign was immediately rewarded, because a prestigious jury awarded the BALANCE-Trainer with the REHACARE DESIGN AWARD - an award which speaks for customer-orientated design and high therapeutic value!

since 2010 We introduced our new THERA-Trainer on the REHACARE 2009 in Düsseldorf. People with disability, physicians and therapists were enthusiastic!
The new foot fixing for the THERA-Trainer
THERApeutical exercisers which are state-of-the-art are characterised by the fact that the user is able to fix their feet unassisted, easy, fast and safe into the foot rests – without breeding pressure marks. After the exercise the fixing has to be released as easy as before..
Your advantage: The new foot fixing is exeedingly easy to operate. With a light push the holder with the cushion can be pressed downwards. The foot is fixed safe in the foot rest – even in case of high spasm. Due to the soft and ergonomically shaped pad pressure marks are a thing of the past. The pinion grid provides an ideal adaptation and with it’s aid the pad of the foot fixing rests on the foot ideal.
- The foot fixing can be assembled on the new THERA-vital as well as on the new THERA-live.
The new colour screens (5,7'' and 10,4'' with touch function) Nowadays customers expect big, good readable colour illustration on the screen and an easy and plain operation. Both is combined optimal in the brilliant touch screen of the new THERA-vital.
Your advantage: The new colour screens (5,7'' or 10,4'') of the THERA-vital can be read independent from the angle of view. The training parameters (f. e. power) can be read out always – if you are sitting in front or standing on the side. This offers additional safety during the exercise. The extremely easy handling is not new at all but worth to mention. F. e. the START/STOP traffic light control provides an extreme easy operation. What else can be required by the user than exercise beginning at the push of a button?
- The new colour screen with touch function can be assembled on the new THERA-vital.
